Do you have a passion for nutrition, enjoy helping others and have an interest in Public Health? If so, Monroe County’s Health Department might have the job for you! We are hiring a part-time WIC Nutritionist at 32 – 40 hours per week. This position is in-person, with the option of a hybrid schedule after 6 months of hire.
Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or Home Economics with an emphasis in Nutrition. Candidates are preferred to be a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a Certified Dietitian with the State of Wisconsin. Candidates are preferred to have a minimum of one-year professional work experience in public health, community nutrition/maternal-child health, lactation, or nutrition; and have alactation counselor, lactation specialist, or lactation educator certification. The WIC Nutritionist will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks within expected timeframes.
The WIC staff serve women, infants, and children enrolled in the WIC program, providing nutrition counseling and education. As a WIC Nutritionist, you will assess participants’ nutritional needs, develop individualized care plans, and offer guidance on healthy eating, breastfeeding, and overall wellness. This role also includes certifying eligibility, promoting positive nutrition behaviors, placing appropriate referrals for community programs and resources, and supporting public health goals to improve maternal and child health.
The WIC Nutritionist provides nutrition assessment, education, and counseling for individuals and groups participating in the WIC program and other nutrition programs and services. The WIC Nutritionist performs comprehensive individual and family assessments and refers clients to other public health programs or community resources within confidentiality policies, as indicated by assessment. The WIC Nutritionist also assesses clients for nutritional counseling needs and provides nutrition counseling. This position determines and prescribes WIC food packages and breast pumps based upon assessed needs and preferences; issues WIC benefits; and documents assessments and services provided.
Starting salary for this position is $29.62/hr. for candidates credentialed as a Registered Dietitian and $27.94/hr. for non-credential candidates.
