August is National Breastfeeding Month

August is National Breastfeeding Month, organized by the US Breastfeeding Committee. The theme for 2022 is “Together We Can Do Great Things” which acknowledges that we all need to work together to support women choosing to breastfeed.  Support needs to come in families, communities, workplaces, and healthcare systems to make sure we have healthy babies, mothers, families and societies.  The month is organized into weekly themes, with the first supporting World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action.  This year’s weekly themes provides information on minority populations. Breastfeeding rates are lower among some racial and ethnic minority groups, whom may also experience health inequities.  Breastfeeding support is important to reducing these inequities.  Click on the links for more information.
