Yes. Undergraduate students meeting the minimum requirements are welcome to apply.
No. Students are accepted to the program and then complete three rotations in trainer labs to find the right “home”.
No. The funding landscape is always in flux, therefore we cannot confirm which faculty trainers are taking students for Fall 2026.
Historically, accepted N&M PhD rotators are guaranteed funding. Funding includes a competitive stipend, tuition remission, and comprehensive health insurance. Funding mechanisms include Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, Fellowships, and/or a T32 training grant appointment.
No. Submitted GRE scores will not be considered in the application review process.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in nutritional sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or one of the biological, medical, or agricultural sciences.
Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Minimum coursework: 2 semesters of general chemistry, 2 semesters of biological sciences, 1 semester of organic chemistry, biochemistry with an organic chemistry prerequisite, 1 semester of calculus or statistics, 1 semester of physiology.
Yes. Students will be required to complete any coursework deficiencies in their first semester of study.
An applicant’s personal statement/reason for graduate study should include brief statements about your professional goals and a summary of your previous research experiences. Personal statements should be one to two pages in length, single-spaced:
- Highlight your strengths, and address any inconsistencies or challenges within your application
- A concise and compelling description of your goals and interests
- Evidence that you have research experience
- Reasons why our program would be a good fit for you
Yes. International students must meet additional criteria, such as English proficiency scores and verification of funding resources, and are subject to employment restrictions to maintain a student visa. No. The N&M program does not grant fee waivers. Applicants can petition the UW Graduate School for a fee waiver if they meet minimum eligibility requirements.
