The latest research helps our society move forward and discover future medical break throughs, but how do those scientists reach these points? On the recent episode of Deeper Than Data, our very own Dietetic Program Director and Assistant Professor, Dr. Adam Kuchnia, discusses his mentor-mentee style and his research focus.
Dr. Kuchnia is a current Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and focuses on muscle and protein metabolism in clinical populations. His passion towards nutrition was driven by his interest in athletic performance, and he had personal experience as a college athlete. His lab is pursuing identification of novel biomarkers of muscle quality that may help refine protein recommendations with the goal of preserving muscle and preventing malnutrition in those affected with muscle wasting disorders. In the podcast, Dr. Kuchnia explains the struggle of finding balance in research and how he has learned to manage a research lab while mentoring students.
